How has being a part of NESPA impacted your career?
I feel more connected to the pool industry as a whole. I used to feel like this is just a job; today, I have a career that I love. I have gained a lot of insight from listening to other pool professionals, at the Penn Jersey Meetings and NESPA conference, to the pool and Spa show in AC. There's so much to learn; it can be overwhelming. I don't have to feel alone as a NESPA member.
When you aren't working, you are…?
I love to exercise - I do Yoga, cycle, run, lift weights, and mediation. I also enjoy reading, baking, crafts, eating popcorn, and snuggling with my dog on the couch.
What is your favorite pool project that you have worked on, and why?
This is a hard question. I mostly service pools and have been for 11 years. I have worked on jobs from digging, laying pipe, scooping mud, saving frogs, replacing liners, and I'm not sure I could pick just one. Since you have asked me to, I think it would be the pool we worked on in Plymouth Meeting. The pool had not been opened in years; it had bamboo growing on the cover. I was scared to get in there after draining it; I thought there would be snakes and all that scary stuff. After cutting up ALL the bamboo and getting the cover out (SO HEAVY), I saved a ton of frogs, scooped out lots of yucky mud, and got it up and running. What an accomplishment. The bamboo was a nightmare, and I never thought it would end!!!! The part I loved the most was watching the homeowner's dog jump in the pool and swim.
If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I absolutely LOVE food and trying new dishes. It would be ungodly only to eat just one thing. I feel bad for dogs that only get kibble for their meals. This has got to be a form of torture. But if I have to pick one, it is going to be Ice cream with unlimited toppings. That may not be a meal, but I can't live without ice cream & chocolate!
Tell us about your favorite Pool & Spa Show memory?
I really enjoyed volunteering at the connection center on the show floor. My two sons volunteered with me, and I like spending time with them. It was fun to get people involved in the game, and the prizes were awesome!
What's one thing - either industry-related or not - you learned in the last month?
I'm taking a boater's exam for my PA boaters license. I learned that the most important thing to have on your boat is a PFD, a personal flotation device.
