Have you ever dreamed about having superpowers? Well it turns out, “two ordinary brothers from Boston” as they refer to themselves, proved it’s not as difficult to achieve as you may think. In their book, Life is Good, John and Bert Jacobs, founders of the Life is Good clothing company, share how they propose we all can have not just one superpower, but 10 of them!
In the book, Bert and John provide us with the 10 most important tools they believe each of us can use to live a happy and fulfilling life. They call these tools the Life is Good Superpowers and write “The Life is Good superpowers will help you overcome obstacles, drive forward with greater purpose, and enjoy the ride of life.”
The superpower I thought most appropriate to discuss in my first presidents message is Gratitude. In the pages on Gratitude, one technique the authors recommend using to be more intentional about Gratitude is to replace the words “have to” with “get to.” For example, instead of me saying that I HAVE TO sit down and write a presidents message, I would say I GET TO do it. It reminds me how grateful I am to be in this position. Not many people GET TO write The Presidents Message for an organization as great as the Northeast Spa and Pool Association (NESPA).
I’m grateful for the presidents that have come before me; they each accomplished so much and set the stage for success. I’m grateful for the NESPA staff, volunteers, members and everyone else who makes holding this position such an honor and a pleasure. I’m truly looking forward to the year ahead.
